April 26, 2002

Present: Gwendolyn Davies, Christina Hannah, Ronald Kane, John Lennox, Lawrence Martin, Martha McKenna, Jeryl Mumpower, Jack Narayan, Harry Richards, Charlena Seymour, Richard Sleight, Orlando Taylor

Also present: Nigar Khan

President Martin called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m.

Secretary Treasurer Report:

Harry Richards distributed copies of the minutes from the 12/7/01 Executive Committee meeting. The minutes of the Executive Committee meeting were accepted as distributed.

Harry distributed an interim financial report. As of 3/28/2002, there was a balance of $35,021.39 in the operating budget. Membership has decreased from 150 institutional members last year to 128 members for the current year. It is anticipated that conference registrations, institutional sponsorships of receptions and corporate sponsorships of the refreshment breaks should cover the costs associated with the NAGS meeting. It was also noted that our investment account had decreased by $7,000 during 2001 and as such, the 3 awards the NAGS pays for (dissertation, teaching and mentoring) will continue to be covered out of the operating budget as opposed to the investment account.

The committee voted unanimously to increase dues to $100 effective in July 2003. The committee also instructed the secretary-treasurer to incorporate up to 3 year membership payments in the annual membership drive as a way to potentially increase membership as well as reducing the need to remind continuing members to pay what amounts to a small fee for many institutions in the region.

Executive Committee:

The following individuals will be presented to the membership for service on the Executive Committee:
Christina Hannah, University of Maryland University College, President-elect
Scott Bass, University of Maryland Baltimore County, member-at-large
Gwendolyn Davies, University of New Brunswick, member-at-large
Ron Kane, New Jersey Institute of Technology, member-at-large
Richard Yahner, Pennsylvania State University, member-at-large

The member-at-large terms will expire in April 2004.

Annual Meeting 2003:

Nigar Khan reported that the 2003 annual meeting would be held at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston, April 24-26, 2003.

A fall meeting of the Executive Committee will held on site. Dates to be determined.

Acknowledgements:

Eugenia Reiersen, Stony Brook and Gloria Van Beaver, New Hampshire were acknowledged for their contributions and support to NAGS.

The meeting adjourned at 9:10 a.m.

Submitted,

Harry Richards
